Senior Electrical Engineer

We are adding a Senior Electrical Engineer to our Kansas City team to design, develop and deploy turn-key power solutions. We love the work we do and our solutions empower communities around the world.

HCI Energy is leading the way to bring responsible power to the most remote locations in the world. Our self-contained Hybrid Power Shelters replace historical reliance on diesel generators in communities, telecom/public safety towers, military ops, disaster relief efforts, and more. Our business is growing quickly and we’re looking for more bright minds to roll up their sleeves, enjoy their work and make a difference.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and improve power electronics
• Design and develop instrumentation and control systems
• Work with a diverse set of customers to understand their needs and translate into great designs and products.
• Serve as subject matter expert as we evaluate various options and solutions.
• Analyze and predict product performance.
• Guide and train project team members on technical topics
• Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications. Visit customers to ensure designs meet their intended benefit.
• Travel to customer sites 10%
Minimum Requirements:
● BS Electrical/Controls Engineering
● 2+ years professional experience
● Familiarity with codes and standards to include the NEC
● Experience with batteries and DC Power Systems and/or communication systems
● Read and review engineering drawings, network diagrams, SCADA documentation, etc.
● Demonstrated ability to create project estimates, material lists, and design packages
● Good verbal and written communication skills
● Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and AutoCAD.
Desired Requirements:
● Professional interest in energy technologies and battery energy storage
● Experience in the construction and commissioning of electric power projects
● Telecom, Public Safety, Solar or Wind environmental experience

Duties and Responsibilities
Build/Install/Integrate generators, battery energy storage, solar arrays, and wind turbines in a pre-packaged, turn-key product. HCI utilizes ISO Containers and custom designed shelters to produce the Hybrid Cube. Work with engines, electrical components and wiring, run conduit, lighting, alarms, and power. Wire up solar panels, batteries, and power conversion equipment. Span of control may include small and heavy equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess an Associate’s Degree, Technical Degree, Certification or Training as an Apprentice or Electrician or appropriate on-the-job experience
- 2+ years professional work experience required
- Some electrical knowledge (OHMS LAW, use of multimeter, wire and conduit standards, codes, etc.)
- Experience in power, automotive, construction, heavy equipment, or commercial machinery.
- Willingness to travel (possibly internationally) up to 10% of the time.
- Must have superior attention to detail and the ability to be coached.
- Team oriented and work to meet target goals and dates.
Preferred Requirements:
- Understand wiring schematics and engineering drawings.
- Experienced in wiring harness construction and routing of cabling and wire.
- Telecom, Public Safety, Renewables & Environmental experience.
- Electrical Install / Electrician / Power Systems
- Construction and commissioning of electric power projects
